Driving with GPS

shortly after moving to vegas and driving around trying to find places, i decided to upgrade to a phone that had a GPS in it. the GPS has come in handy many times, and honestly i am glad that i have it. i don't waste paper printing things off mapquest.com and i can find local establishments with a click of the button. but last night i realized something about the GPS that i have that is super annoying. let me tell you my story. one of my friends from school was celebrating her birthday so a group of us decided to go out. they wanted to go to a place that i have never been and was not sure where it was. i wasn't worrying because after all i have a fancy GPS. so i put in the address and it comes up with the directions and there are like 20 steps in the directions to get there, this didn't concern me because it was clear on the other side of town about 35 minutes away. so i am driving down the freeway and the GPS tells me that a step is coming up and that i need to keep to the left. so i kept to the left. i change freeways and again it tells me to keep to the left, so i kept to the left. it does this several times in the 35 minutes that it took me to get to the restaurant, so every time i kept to the left...on the freeway. by about the 3rd time it hit me. this damn thing is telling me to stay on the freeway...that i am currently on. how annoying is that. it's like having a person give you directions like this. "ok you are going to go south on the 95. you are going to come up on the summerlin/rainbow exit, but don't take that. stay left on the 95. then take the 15 south exit. go south on the 15. then you are going to come up on the tropicana exit. don't take that exit. stay to the left on the 15." ok right in this small example there were 4 steps that the GPS told me when in reality there should have only been 2...take the 95 south until you get to the 15 and take that south bound. but the annoyance goes far beyond the exit directions that don't need to be in there. the GPS talks to you and tells you step by step what to do. so again we are going to pretend that the GPS is a person to illustrate how annoying it really is. "ok you are going to get on the 95 going south...alright in about a mile you are not going to want to get off the freeway at the summerlin/rainbow exit, you are going to want to stay to the left. the exit is coming up, get ready not to take it. you are 100 yards from the exit DON'T TAKE IT!!! STAY TO THE LEFT!!! ok in about 3 miles you are going to come up on the 15 going south exit." then the damn thing does the same thing over and over again with each major exit you are not suppose to take. but the writing does not do this GPS justice. this thing builds the anxiety in me as i get close to these exits that i'm not suppose to take. honestly i can feel my heart beat faster and my palms get sweaty. and then i think what kind of dumb ass does this thing think i am. really it has to tell me to stay on the road that i am currently on. "go straight on this road. make sure you don't get off on the summerlin/rainbow exit." COME ON GPS!!! ok so i just checked and there were 13 steps to get to this restaurant according the my GPS. really there should only be four. i'll give them to you. 1-get on the 95 going south. 2-then take the 15 south. 3-take the silverado ranch exit and turn left. 4-turn right onto maryland the restaurant is right there on you left it's call Almaza. so there were 9 extra steps in there just to annoy and drive me crazy. what makes things worse is i've been to a place right next to this restaurant...so i didn't even need to use the damn GPS.
